Documents provided
| Site | Refugees | Water available (l/person/day) | Acute diarrhoea in children under 5 (cases per week, W1 then W6) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Site 1 | 62,000 | 13 | 40 then 70 |
| Site 2 | 74,000 | 9 | 60 then 150 |
| Site 3 | 50,000 | 6 | 40 then 190 |
- Reference standard: 15 litres per person per day.
- Global acute malnutrition among children aged 6-59 months at site 3: 17.2% (sector survey, confidence interval 14.9 to 19.8%).
- Water and sanitation sector funding: 11.52 million USD received out of 64 million required.
- Water trucking: 7 USD per m³. Motorised borehole: 75 m³ per day, 95,000 USD installed, lifespan of more than 10 years.
- Average time to obtain a drilling permit from the ministry: 4 months.
- Donor A: favours multi-year resilience funding; its country representative is accessible.
- Donor B: cut its regional envelope by 30% this year; responsive to cost-effectiveness arguments.
- Ministry of Water: issues drilling permits; the governor must allocate land to extend site 3.
- The water and sanitation sector is preparing a joint statement; two partner NGOs want a media campaign blaming the donors.
"Halimé, 34, site 3. Her 13-year-old daughter was raped during their flight. The mother agrees to the use of their first names and of the girl's photo (face visible), taken by our staff member. Consent given orally, not documented."
"Thousands of children will die of thirst if donors do not act: a child dies every hour in the camps." (no source given for the second figure)
Result
0 out of 100
Mark each answer honestly against the panel's grid: the total is calculated automatically.
Common mistakes that cost marks
- Using the simple average of the three sites instead of the weighted average.
- Formulating vague asks ("more funding") with no amount, deadline or target.
- Using the testimony of a child survivor of sexual violence because the mother said yes.
- Repeating an unsourced figure to make the message stronger.
- Publicly attacking donors three weeks before the conference.
