Instructions
- The test lasts 90 minutes. It is marked out of 100; the pass mark for the interview is 60.
- You may use a calculator or a spreadsheet. Show your workings: a correct result without workings receives only half the marks.
- The payroll scale in document 1 is simplified for the test and does not necessarily reflect current legislation: apply it as it stands. Round each amount to the nearest CFA franc (XAF).
- Any outside help (another person, artificial intelligence) is forbidden. Scripts containing identical passages are disqualified.
- The documents are fictional but built on realistic data. Do not make unjustified assumptions; if you make one, state it.
Original practice test, built on the format of written tests used by United Nations agencies and international NGOs. The context and figures are fictitious.
Documents provided
- Taxable gross = basic salary + risk allowance + overtime (XAF 1,500 per hour) - deduction for unpaid absence (basic salary / 22 × number of days).
- Transport allowance: XAF 20,000 per month, not taxable and not subject to social contributions.
- Employee social contribution: 4.2% of taxable gross, capped at a gross of XAF 750,000.
- Salary tax: base = taxable gross - employee contribution - allowance of XAF 25,000. Rate: 10% on the part of the base up to XAF 300,000, 20% above.
- Net pay = taxable gross + transport - contribution - tax - advance deductions.
- Employer contributions: 12% of taxable gross (no cap).
- Advances: only one open advance per person; salary advance limited to one third of net pay before advance deduction; mission advance accounted for within 10 days of return; no one approves their own advance; any deduction from salary requires the employee's written consent.
- Charging: the cost of each employee (taxable gross + transport + employer contributions) is allocated between projects according to the signed timesheets for the month.

Common mistakes that cost marks
- Forgetting the contribution cap for the base coordinator.
- Making the transport allowance subject to tax or social contributions.
- Applying 20% to the whole taxable base instead of the banded scale.
- Charging salaries according to the budget key rather than the timesheets.
- Deducting from salary without written consent or without respecting the one-third limit.
- Failing to spot the self-approval of advance AV-29.
