| 08:05 | The GPS tracker shows the vehicle stopping at a junction where illegal checkpoints were reported last month. |
| 08:20 | Jean's phone is switched off. |
| 09:15 | The radio operator notices that Jean has not checked in; he calls him twice without an answer. |
| 10:30 | An employee posts in the staff WhatsApp group (140 members): "Jean has been kidnapped!!!", with a photo of Jean. |

- Any serious crisis (abduction, death, serious assault) is notified to headquarters within one hour of its confirmation. Headquarters activates its crisis management team; a country crisis cell is set up under the leadership of the country director or their designated deputy.
- The organisation does not pay ransoms and makes no material concessions in exchange for the release of its staff. It does everything possible, by other means, to secure a safe release.
- Specialist kidnap response advice is available through the insurance contract. The existence of this contract is strictly confidential.
- Only the headquarters communications manager speaks to the media.
- The family of the abducted person is supported by a designated liaison officer, the sole point of contact with the organisation.

Common mistakes that cost marks
- Letting the logistician recover the vehicle.

- Letting several people talk to the family or the kidnappers.
- Mentioning the victim's name, the ransom amount or the insurance in a communication.
- Accepting a "discreet" payment through the family.
